Dubbed “an event that unites a half-century's worth of blues, rock, soul, jazz and spoken word stars in the service of troubled teens,” The Waltz was a uniquely collaborative 5-year concert series inspired by its namesake, The Last Waltz, the farewell concert of The Band. Chicago's Nicholas Tremulis wanted to do a concert that would celebrate this spirit and help homeless teens. In partnership with the historic Metro, JAM Productions and 93XRT.   Artists chose 1-2 songs, backed by the Nicholas Tremulis Orchestra, and there were numerous inspired collaborations and covers: Rick Danko and Billy Corgan christened the inaugural event – Danko with the sweet,  “It Makes No Difference” and Corgan paired up with his father, blues guitarist Billy Corgan Sr.; Mavis Staples’ searing rendition of “I’ll Take You There, followed by the Staples Singers classic, Somebody Save Me, acapella with power singers Kelly Hogan and Nora O’Connor;  Wilco's Jeff Tweedy and Jayhawks' Gary Louris pairing up with a beaming Bun E. Carlos of Cheap Trick on the drums; Marianne Faithfull’s soulful delivery of Bob Dylan’s “Gotta Serve Somebody; Ronnie Spector doing "Be My Baby” with Sonia Dada as the wall of sound; Steve Earle performing “Outlaw’s Honeymoon” for the first time ever accompanied by tuba; jazz great Kurt Elling releasing in his inner rock star on a blistering version of “Freedom” with Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin and more.
